Abstract

This article is based on one of the famous religious figures in Yogyakarta, named K.H. Ahmad
Dahlan. K.H Ahmad Dahlan is a very competent figure, this is proven by the development
experienced by Muhammadiyah. Dahlan was very concerned about the fate of his people, Dahlan
did not want the indigenous people to experience setbacks in the field of religion and experience
ignorance and oppression carried out by the Dutch government. Therefore, to overcome this
problem, Dahlan tried to change people's habits that were not in accordance with Islamic
teachings. Many people still believe in superstitions, heresy, kurafat which increasingly distance
people from the teachings of Islam. In addition, in the existing world of education does not yet have
a learning and teaching system specifically for indigenous people who are Muslim. Therefore, the
foundation built in the concept of Muhammadiyah Education has combined the concept of faith
and progress in thinking. This means that the pattern of education taught in Muhammadiyah has
combined the concept of faith which is the basic foundation in religion and progress as evidence
of the form of thinking openly, and behaving in the face of the possibilities that will occur in this
life.
