KOMUNIKASI SIMBOLIK TRADISI MAKAN NASI DAMAI DI DESA SEPINGGAN KECAMATAN SEMPARUK KABUPATEN SAMBAS
Abstract
The Malay community of Sepinggan Village, Semparuk District, Sambas Regency, practices the tradition of eating peaceful rice. Of all the aspects contained in the tradition of eating peaceful rice, it is symbolic and contains meaning and values that are hopes for the picture of the future life of the bride and groom. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe: 1) the meaning of the tradition of eating peaceful rice; 2) the self-concept of the bride and groom towards the tradition of eating peaceful rice; and 3) the pattern of internal and external interactions of the bride and groom towards the tradition of eating peaceful rice. The research method used in this study is qualitative research with an anthropological approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while the sources of data in this study are the bride and groom and the host. Furthermore, the data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, verification, and drawing conclusions, while the technique of checking the validity of the data, the researcher uses triangulation and member check techniques. The results of the study show that symbolic communication of the tradition of eating peaceful rice is a Sambas Malay culture, which has meaning and value in marriage for the bride and groom. The meaning of the peaceful rice is the hope of harmony and peace in the household, with many different things such as pleasures and trials symbolised by side dishes that have different flavors. In addition, the tradition of eating peaceful rice is symbolised for the bride and groom to serve, love, and respect each other in order to achieve the hope of peace in the household.
