Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the history of the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Institute (LDII) which was first established on January 3, 1972 in Surabaya, East Java. LDII changed its name to the Islamic Employee Foundation called YAKARI (Jaiz 2002, 74). At the big deliberation (Mubes) in 1981 its name was changed to the Islamic Employee Institute (LEMKARI) and at the Mubes in 1990. The strategy at the LDII institution is essentially planning and management to achieve a goal. In this da'wah activity requires a da'wah strategy that is in accordance with the times. Therefore, the government, in this case the Ministry of Religion and the Indonesian Ulema Council, has not taken any action to stop this sect. The reason is because in its written agreement and agreed with the Indonesian Ulema Council, it states its availability not to take actions that will lead to violence and cause unrest in the community. However, so far the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Institute has not shown or carried out religious activities or carried out worship that is contrary to Islamic law and the government will not take any action against the LDII organization.
