Comparative Interpretation of Qur’an 4:75 and the Representation of the Mustadh‘afin in Instagram Posts on @eye.on.palestine
Abstract
Qur’an 4:75 affirms the responsibility to defend the mustaḍ‘afīn, namely groups that have been weakened and subjected to oppression. This study compares interpretations of Qur’an 4:75 in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Al-Maraghi, and Tafsir Al-Mishbah and analyzes representations of the mustaḍ‘afīn in ten posts displayed on the Instagram profile @eye.on.palestine between March and May 2026. This qualitative study combines library research, comparative interpretation, and content analysis, with data selected purposively. The findings show that the three commentaries share the same orientation toward defending oppressed groups but offer different layers of meaning. Tafsir Ibn Kathir provides a historical foundation based on transmitted reports, Tafsir Al-Maraghi emphasizes social and humanitarian dimensions, and Tafsir Al-Mishbah extends the verse’s contextual and universal relevance. The analysis identifies three representational patterns: suffering, displacement, and structural violence; resilience and psychosocial recovery; and solidarity and digital advocacy. This study contributes by connecting the historical, social-humanitarian, and contextual layers of Qur’anic interpretation with digital representations of the mustaḍ‘afīn. The findings demonstrate that the analyzed posts neither directly interpret nor quote the verse, but remain ethically relevant to its call to defend oppressed groups.
