Abstract

This study aims to describe the history of Sebangun Village from 1987 to 2023, with a focus on the socio-cultural and economic changes that occurred during that period. This study is a qualitative study using historical research methods, which include four stages: heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Data were obtained from primary sources in the form of village archives, official documents, and oral sources through interviews with village officials and community leaders, as well as secondary sources in the form of relevant books and scientific articles. The results of the study indicate that Sebangun Village has undergone a significant transformation since the merger of three hamlets in 1987. Socio-cultural changes in Sebangun Village are characterized by a shift in community life patterns from being entirely dependent on traditional agriculture to a society that is more open to modernization, without completely abandoning local values ​​such as mutual cooperation (belalek), customs, and religious traditions. In the economic sector, the village has experienced livelihood diversification through the development of the agricultural sector, plantations, home industries, and culture-based tourism, especially through the strengthening of sago commodities as a local economic identity. Overall, the history of Sebangun Village shows the process of adaptation of village communities in facing modernization, where economic development and social change go hand in hand with efforts to maintain local cultural identity.
