Correction and Retraction Policy

Jurnal Edukatif, published by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Institut Agama Islam Sultan Muhammad Syafiuddin Sambas, is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, transparency, and traceability of its published articles. When errors or concerns affecting the integrity of a publication are identified, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, with reference to the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

These actions aim to correct the scholarly record and provide clear information to readers. Corrections and retractions do not necessarily indicate intentional misconduct, as unintentional errors may also require editorial action.

1. Reporting Errors or Concerns

Authors who discover a significant error in their published article must promptly notify the editor of Jurnal Edukatif. Readers, reviewers, institutions, and other parties may also report concerns through the journal’s official contact channels, providing the article’s title or DOI, a description of the issue, and any available supporting evidence.

The editor will assess the nature of the concern, the strength of the evidence, and its implications for the article’s accuracy, interpretation, and reliability. Allegations of research or publication misconduct will be examined in accordance with the journal’s Research Misconduct and Allegations Policy.

2. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error affects the understanding, factual accuracy, or attribution of an article but does not undermine its overall reliability. Such errors may concern data, tables, figures, quotations, author information, contribution statements, funding declarations, or conflict of interest disclosures.

The correction notice will identify the affected article, describe the error, explain the amendment, and be linked to the original publication. Where the article file is updated, substantive changes will be clearly documented to preserve the traceability of the publication record.

Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect meaning may be corrected administratively without a separate correction notice, at the editor’s discretion.

3. Expressions of Concern

Jurnal Edukatif may issue an expression of concern when serious questions arise about the reliability or integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is inconclusive, an investigation is ongoing, or a resolution is expected to take considerable time.

The notice will describe the nature of the concern in a factual and proportionate manner and will be linked to the affected article. An expression of concern does not constitute a definitive finding of misconduct.

Once sufficient information becomes available, the journal will publish a follow-up explaining the outcome. Depending on the findings, this may include a correction, a retraction, or a statement that the concern has been resolved without further action.

4. Retractions

Retraction will be considered when sufficient evidence demonstrates that a published article is unreliable or contains serious problems that cannot be adequately addressed through correction. Grounds for retraction may include:

  • Major errors in data, methods, or analysis that invalidate the findings or conclusions.

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data or results.

  • Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of other people’s work.

  • Unjustified duplicate publication.

  • Unethical research practices or serious violations of research ethics.

  • Manipulation of peer review that compromises the integrity of the editorial process.

  • Other serious breaches of publication ethics that materially undermine the reliability or integrity of the article.

An undisclosed conflict of interest may also warrant retraction if it is shown to have seriously affected the interpretation of the article or the editorial decision.

An authorship dispute alone does not automatically justify retraction when the article’s content remains reliable and the attribution issue can be resolved through a correction or another appropriate editorial action.

Retraction decisions will be based on available evidence and editorial assessment, taking into account the authors’ explanations and institutional findings where available. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond. However, their agreement is not required when sufficient grounds for retraction have been established.

5. Retraction Notices and Article Status

A retraction notice will clearly identify the affected article, state the reason for retraction, and identify who is retracting the article, where appropriate. The notice will present the reasons factually and transparently, without making unsupported allegations.

The retraction notice will be accessible to readers and linked to the affected article, with a reciprocal link from the article to the notice.

Retracted articles will generally remain available as part of the scholarly record, with their retracted status clearly marked on the article webpage and publication file. Relevant metadata will be updated, and indexing services or other relevant providers will be notified where feasible.

Articles will not be removed merely to conceal errors, avoid accountability, or erase publication history.

6. Content Removal in Exceptional Circumstances

Partial or complete removal of published content will be considered only in exceptional circumstances. Such circumstances may include the need to protect an individual’s confidentiality or safety, address a rights infringement that cannot be resolved through correction, or comply with applicable legal obligations.

Where removal is necessary, Jurnal Edukatif will retain the article’s bibliographic information and a notice explaining the removal to the extent permitted by law and applicable confidentiality requirements.

The journal will seek to ensure that any removal is proportionate to the circumstances and does not unnecessarily compromise the transparency of the scholarly record.

7. Decision-Making and Appeals

Editors handling a correction, expression of concern, or retraction case must be free from relevant conflicts of interest. Where necessary, the journal may consult independent experts or seek clarification from the institutions concerned.

The editorial team is responsible for communicating the decision and ensuring that the publication record is updated appropriately. The publisher or journal management will support the implementation of editorial decisions and the dissemination of relevant updates.

Authors may appeal a decision through the journal’s official contact channels by providing clear reasons and any additional evidence supporting the appeal. Appeals will be assessed by a person without a relevant conflict of interest and, wherever possible, someone who was not involved in the original decision.

An appeal does not automatically suspend action necessary to inform readers of significant concerns about a published article.

8. Commitment to Publication Integrity

Jurnal Edukatif is committed to handling post-publication concerns fairly, consistently, and transparently, with reference to COPE guidance and the principles of responsible scholarly publishing.

All editorial actions will be proportionate to the evidence and the nature of the issue. The journal aims to protect the integrity of the scholarly record, provide readers with reliable information, and uphold accountability among authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in scholarly publication.
