Policy on the Use of AI
1. General Statement
Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support authors, editors, reviewers, and other stakeholders in the scholarly publishing process. These technologies may assist with language improvement, translation, formatting, and other appropriate tasks. However, their use must not compromise academic integrity, authorship accountability, confidentiality, originality, transparency, research ethics, or the quality of scholarly communication.
The journal permits the limited and responsible use of AI-assisted technologies under the conditions stipulated in this policy. The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for manuscript content, research findings, peer-review reports, or editorial decisions to an AI system. Authors, editors, and reviewers remain fully responsible for their respective contributions and decisions.
2. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies as supporting tools in preparing manuscripts submitted to Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam. Acceptable uses may include language improvement, grammar correction, translation, formatting assistance, and other appropriate editorial tasks.
However, AI must not replace authors’ intellectual contributions, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for their research. Authors remain fully responsible for:
-
The accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.
-
The validity of research data, methodology, analysis, interpretation, and conclusions.
-
The accuracy and verifiability of citations, quotations, and references.
-
The originality and proper attribution of ideas and arguments.
-
Compliance with research ethics, publication ethics, and applicable requirements concerning research participants.
-
Reviewing and verifying all AI-generated or AI-assisted outputs before submission.
In research concerning Islamic education, authors must ensure that AI-assisted interpretations of religious texts, educational theories, historical sources, and scholarly literature are accurate, contextualized, and supported by reliable sources. AI-generated interpretations must not be presented as verified scholarly conclusions without appropriate human evaluation.
AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the content, integrity, and accountability of a scholarly publication.
3. Disclosure of AI Use by Authors
Authors who use AI-assisted technologies in preparing their manuscripts must disclose such use to the journal when it materially contributes to the manuscript or research process. The disclosure should identify:
-
The AI tool or system used.
-
The purpose and scope of its use.
-
The section or aspect of the manuscript in which the technology was used, where applicable.
The disclosure should be included in an appropriate section of the manuscript or in the submission process, as required by the journal.
The following is an example of an acceptable disclosure:
AI Disclosure: The authors used [name of AI tool] to assist with language editing and grammar improvement. All AI-assisted outputs were reviewed and verified by the authors, who remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of this manuscript.
When AI is used in data processing, analysis, or other substantive research activities, authors must provide sufficient methodological information to enable readers to understand how the technology was used.
Routine spelling or grammar functions that do not materially contribute to the scholarly content may be treated differently, subject to the journal’s submission requirements.
The use of AI to fabricate or manipulate data, generate unverifiable references, misrepresent sources, or conceal substantive AI-generated intellectual contributions is prohibited.
4. Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted technologies for limited administrative or technical purposes that support journal management and editorial work, provided that such use does not compromise confidentiality, fairness, editorial independence, or academic integrity.
Editors must not delegate editorial judgment to AI systems. Decisions concerning the following matters must remain under the responsibility of the authorized editor:
-
Acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.
-
Selection and appointment of peer reviewers.
-

AI-generated recommendations or outputs used for legitimate editorial purposes must be critically evaluated and verified by the editor before being acted upon. Editors remain accountable for all editorial decisions.
5. Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must protect the confidentiality of manuscripts submitted for peer review and must not upload or enter confidential manuscript content, unpublished research data, or other protected materials into external AI systems without explicit authorization from the journal and adequate confidentiality and data-protection safeguards.
Reviewers must not delegate their substantive evaluation of a manuscript to AI systems. Peer-review reports must reflect the reviewer’s own scholarly judgment, critical assessment, and professional expertise.
This policy is intended to protect:
-
Manuscript confidentiality and authors’ intellectual property.
-
Unpublished research findings and research materials.
-
The confidentiality of the peer-review process.
-
The independence and accountability of reviewers.
-
Editorial integrity and trust in scholarly communication.
Reviewers remain personally responsible for the accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, and scholarly substance of their review reports. Any permitted use of AI must comply with the journal’s instructions and must not compromise the integrity of peer review.

-
Circumvent established principles of research ethics and publication integrity.
Authors must independently verify the accuracy and authenticity of AI-assisted content, including quotations, references, interpretations of Islamic texts, and claims about educational practices or research findings.
Any suspected misuse of AI may be assessed in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics and research integrity procedures. Editorial action will be based on the available evidence and the nature and seriousness of the suspected violation.
7. Editorial Responsibility and Enforcement
The Editorial Board of Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam reserves the right to request clarification from authors regarding the use of AI-assisted technologies when necessary.
Failure to disclose AI use when disclosure is required, the provision of misleading information concerning AI use, or the use of AI in a manner that violates academic integrity may constitute a breach of publication ethics.
Depending on the circumstances and supporting evidence, appropriate editorial actions may include requesting clarification, requiring revision, rejecting a manuscript, publishing a correction, retracting a published article, or taking other measures in accordance with the journal’s applicable policies.
AI-detection tools, where used, must be treated as supplementary assessment instruments rather than conclusive proof of misconduct. Editorial decisions must take account of the available evidence, the authors’ explanations, and the relevant context.
8. Final Responsibility and Policy Review
AI-assisted technologies are tools and cannot bear authorship, editorial, or peer-review responsibility. Human authors, editors, and reviewers remain accountable for their respective scholarly and editorial activities.
Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam is committed to promoting the responsible use of AI while preserving academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and the quality of scholarship in Islamic education.
