Post-Publication Discussion Policy

Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam welcomes scholarly comments, critiques, and responses concerning its published articles from readers, authors, researchers, and the wider academic community. Post-publication discussion aims to deepen scholarly understanding, examine research arguments, encourage academic dialogue, and help maintain an accurate and reliable scholarly record.

This policy forms part of the journal’s commitment to publication ethics and is implemented with reference to the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Scope of Discussion

Post-publication discussion may address research approaches, methodologies, literature reviews, the use of sources, interpretations of data or texts, educational theories, curriculum development, teaching and learning practices, research findings, conclusions, and the implications of published articles.

Comments may also identify factual errors, methodological limitations, inconsistencies, or information requiring clarification.

In Islamic education, differences in religious interpretation, educational philosophies, schools of thought, pedagogical approaches, and scholarly perspectives are part of legitimate academic dialogue. Such discussions should engage with the substance of published work through reasoned arguments, appropriate evidence, and relevant scholarly references while respecting academic freedom and diverse perspectives.

2. Submission of Comments

Comments should be submitted through the official contact channels provided on the Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam website.

Contributors should provide their identity and contact information, the title or DOI of the article under discussion, the specific passages or issues being addressed, and supporting evidence or references where appropriate. Any relevant interests, affiliations, or relationships that could influence the discussion must be disclosed.

Comments must be clear, proportionate, evidence-based, and focused on scholarly issues. Personal attacks, discriminatory language, unsupported accusations, defamatory statements, and promotional material are not acceptable.

Anonymous reports concerning article integrity may be assessed under the journal’s Research Misconduct and Allegations Policy when the information provided is sufficiently specific and verifiable.

3. Editorial Assessment

The editor assesses submitted comments for relevance, clarity, scholarly quality, supporting arguments, and their potential contribution to understanding the published article.

Where necessary, the editor may request revisions, further clarification, additional references, or an assessment by an appropriately qualified independent expert. Editors with a relevant conflict of interest must not participate in the decision.

Not all comments will be published. Editorial decisions will be based on scholarly merit, relevance to the journal’s readership, and compliance with publication ethics rather than agreement or disagreement with the views expressed by the original authors or editors.

Substantiated criticism will not be rejected merely because it challenges the methods, findings, interpretations, or conclusions of a published article.

4. Opportunity for Authors to Respond

Where a comment raises issues requiring clarification from the original article’s authors, the editor will forward the comment to them and provide an opportunity to respond within a specified timeframe.

Responses should address the substantive issues directly and provide relevant evidence, explanations, or scholarly references. Responses must maintain a professional tone and comply with the journal’s ethical and editorial requirements.

Comments and responses may be edited for clarity, language, and consistency without altering their substantive arguments. Any substantive editorial changes will be communicated to the relevant contributors where appropriate.

An author’s failure to respond does not, in itself, prevent publication of a comment that has been assessed as suitable for publication.

5. Publication and Traceability

Accepted comments may be published as scholarly correspondence, a commentary, a response article, or another appropriate publication format determined by the editor.

Where an author’s response is available and considered relevant, it may be published alongside the comment or linked to it. Comments and responses will be linked to the article under discussion, where technically feasible, so that readers can follow the scholarly exchange in context.

Publication of a comment does not imply the journal’s endorsement of every view expressed. Contributors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their statements and arguments.

The original article will not be amended solely because alternative scholarly interpretations or differing conclusions have been presented. Any necessary correction to the published record will be handled in accordance with the journal’s Correction, Expression of Concern, and Retraction Policy.

6. Follow-Up on Errors and Allegations of Misconduct

If a discussion identifies an error that may require an amendment to a published article, the editor will assess the evidence and determine whether a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or another appropriate editorial action is warranted.

Substantive changes to published content will not be made silently. Any correction or other editorial notice will be documented and linked to the affected article to preserve the transparency and traceability of the scholarly record.

Comments containing allegations of research or publication misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal’s Research Misconduct and Allegations Policy. Scholarly discussion does not replace a formal assessment of suspected misconduct, and criticism of an article does not, in itself, establish an ethical violation.

7. Commitment to Constructive Academic Dialogue

Tarbiya Islamica: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam is committed to fostering constructive, respectful, and evidence-based scholarly discussion after publication. The journal encourages dialogue that strengthens research quality, supports the development of Islamic education scholarship, and contributes to the advancement of educational theory and practice.

All post-publication discussions will be handled fairly and consistently, with due consideration for scholarly merit, academic freedom, confidentiality where applicable, and publication ethics. Through this policy, the journal seeks to promote intellectual exchange while maintaining the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record.
